Vocation to the Poor Clare Nuns

Are you wondering if God is calling you to become a Poor Clare Nun? Here are a few suggestions for discerning your calling.

      1. Discerning
        1. How long have you asked yourself, maybe I should be a nun?
        2. Why do you ask yourself this question?
        3. Have I met someone who lives this Poor Clare Life?
      2. What steps have I taken
        1. I gathered information on different Poor Clare Monasteries
        2. I am just beginning my search
      3. What am I looking for in life?
        1. To live a life of prayer
        2. To live a life of prayer in Community
        3. To live the Gospel Way of life
        4. Maybe I don’t know exactly what I am looking for but I want something more in life.
      4. What the Poor Clare life is not
        1. It is not an escape from the troubles and problems of life.
        2. It is not a choice of life because nothing else worked out.
        3. It is not a group of women living together like a college sorority.
      5. What the Poor Clare life is
        1. The form of life of the Poor Sisters (St. Francis called them by this Name) is this: to observe the Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, by living in Obedience, without anything of one’s own and in Chastity.
        2. This life is a seeking out of the will of God and is a service in the Church and a responsibility toward all people.
        3. The Contemplative life is a sign to the rest of the world that the One alone is absolute and may be found, for when one person finds God it helps others find God.
        4. To live highest poverty, to understand poverty today and put it into practice. This leads to a true freedom and to living a simple way of life.
        5. The Poor Clare will approach the grace of working, doing even menial jobs in the spirit of the poor person, and not in search of security.
