The pidyon haben, (Hebrew: פדיון הבן) or redemption of the first-born son,[1] is a mitzvah in Judaism whereby a Jewish firstborn son is redeemed by use of silver coins from his birth-state of sanctity.
The redemption is attained by giving five silver coins to a Kohen (a patrilineal descendant of the priestly family of Aaron).
Than we have Mary who hears for the first time that a sword will pierce her heart. Joseph provides the redemption price of the poor, a pair of turtledoves. for the rich it would be a lamb. according to the custom of that time.
Simeon says the prayer to God which we say every day at Night Prayer:
According to Your word;
30 For my eyes have seen Your salvation,
31 Which You have prepared in the presence of all peoples,
32 A Light [a]of revelation to the Gentiles,
And the glory of Your people Israel.”
